- buttermilk

01 SLICE
Start by slicing the onions. Peel the onions and cut them in half. Then, use a mandoline to thinly and evenly cut the onions into 1/8'' slices.

02 MARINATE
Place the onions in a bowl.
Add the buttermilk & stir to coat all of the onions.
Marinate 15-60 minutes.

03 WHISK
Meanwhile, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
Whisk to mix it all together.

04 DREDGE
Use tongs to grab a handful of onions. Let extra buttermilk drip off.
Dredge the onions in the flour mixture until coated.

05 FRY
Heat the oil in a 12'' skillet until it's very hot.
Working a few at a time, fry the onions until crispy.
Drain on paper towels and season with salt.
