CARAMEL DUTCH APPLE PIE

with brown butter

WHY YOU SHOULD MAKE THIS PIE

The filling is juicy & jammy. The streusel is made with brown butter for extra caramel flavor. It's perfect for holidays, dinner parties, & autumn nights!

INGREDIENTS

PIE CRUST APPLES LEMONS BROWN SUGAR FLOUR CORNSTARCH CINNAMON APPLE PIE SPICE CARDAMOM SALT EGGS CARAMEL SAUCE BUTTER

01

Roll the pie crust until it's 1/8'' thick. Place the dough into a pie plate. Crimp the edges & refrigerate for 10-15 minutes.

02

Brown the butter. Then, mix the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, & salt. Add the brown butter and stir until the mixture is crumbly.

03

Mix the apples, lemon juice, brown sugar, cornstarch, flour, & spices, and Kosher salt.

Brush the pie dough with egg wash & add the caramel apple pie filling.

04

Pour the caramel sauce over the apples & top with streusel. Bake until the pie is golden-brown on top & bubbling in the center. Let it cool completely.

PRO-TIP

For a crisp (never soggy!) pie, bake the pie in the lower 1/3 of your oven on a hot pizza stone or hot sheet pan. The pizza stone/sheet pan will crisp up the bottom!

WHAT PIE DISH SHOULD I USE?

For a crisp pie bottom, I recommend a metal pie plate or stoneware pie plate. Both will help crisp up that bottom crust.

SERVING IDEAS

Add a scoop of vanilla or butter pecan ice cream

Drizzle the pie with extra caramel sauce or butterscotch sauce.

For crunch, add toasted pecans on top.
