GINGER OLD FASHIONED COCKTAIL

with homemade ginger syrup

WHY YOU'LL 🤍 THIS RECIPE!

- It's easy to make. - You don't need any special tools. - The ginger syrup is so good with bourbon! - It's the perfect cozy cocktail for parties or dinners.

THE INGREDIENTS

- Fresh ginger root - White sugar - Bourbon whiskey - Ginger bitters - Orange or lemon - Crystallized ginger - Large ice cubes

01

Combine the sugar, water, and chopped ginger. Simmer it for 1-2 minutes. Then, infuse for 10 minutes, strain, & cool.

02

Add the ginger syrup, bourbon, and ginger bitters to a cocktail mixing glass. If you don't have a cocktail mixing glass, use a shaker instead.

03

Fill the cocktail mixing glass with ice and stir the drink just until it's frosty, about 20-30 seconds. Don't over-mix!

04

Strain the cocktail over a large ice cube in a rocks glass. Garnish the old fashioned with crystallized ginger and an orange twist.

TIP!

Make sure you're using bitters properly! A full dash is a good shake of the bottle (not a drop). Also, use bitters like salt and pepper - to taste!

MAKE IT A BATCH COCKTAIL!

To make a batched old fashioned, just combine the ginger syrup, bourbon, and bitters in a pitcher. Refrigerate. Then, pour the cocktail over an ice cube and enjoy!

CAN I MAKE THIS WITH RYE?

Yes! If you like a less sweet cocktail, use rye whiskey instead of bourbon. Pick a high-quality rye since this is a spirit-forward cocktail.

THE BEST WHISKEY FOR OLD FASHIONEDS

A few of my bourbon favorites: - Frey Ranch - Four Roses - Buffalo Trace - Woodford Reserve And for rye: - Rittenhouse - Knob Creek
