Kosher salt and freshly-ground black pepper,to taste
1/4cupall-purpose flour(50 grams)
2large eggs
1Tablespoonwhole milk or water(15 milligrams)
Olive oil or olive oil cooking sprayas needed
Pepper jelly or chili saucefor serving
Equipment
Large sheet pan
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C). Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
Use a sharp knife to slice the halloumi into 1-inch cubes. Dry them very well with a clean towel or paper towels. Set aside.
Then, prepare the dredging station. Combine the Panko breadcrumbs, sesame seeds, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl. Pour the flour into a small bowl. In another small bowl, whisk the eggs and milk or water until smooth.
Working in batches, toss the halloumi cubes with the flour until all of the sides are well-coated. Tap off any extra flour, and dip the cheese cubes in the egg mixture. Let any extra egg drip off the cheese, and then toss the cheese cubes with the breadcrumbs, making sure all sides are well-coated.
Line the halloumi bites on the prepared sheet pan. Drizzle the halloumi bites with olive oil, or spray them with olive oil cooking spray.
Bake the halloumi bites for 15 minutes. Then, flip the bites and bake them for another 5-10 minutes, until the cheese cubes are crispy on the outside and melty in the centers.
Serve the bites right away with red pepper jelly or chili sauce. Enjoy!
Notes
For the best halloumi, look for the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) label. You can find halloumi in the artisan cheese section of well-stocked grocery stores or at cheese shops. For bites that are gooey in the center, slice the cheese into 1-inch cubes. If you go smaller, the cheese could dry out or become too rubbery.Feel free to switch up the seasonings with whatever you like! This recipe is flexible. You can also air fry the bites at 350°F (177°C) for 10-15 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until they are crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside.
