This is my take on the viral baked boursin, but instead of dredging a whole wheel of cheese, we’re taking the easier route. All you have to do is sprinkle some breadcrumbs on top of store-bought or homemade boursin cheese, stick it in the oven until it’s golden-brown, and drizzle everything with some hot honey. Seriously, it’s to die for, you need to give it a try this holiday season!

Y’all, I know I always preach gentle January, but honestly? I need a gentle holiday season. This year has been CRAZY. 😭 I mean good, great even, but I need a breather.

So, yeah, I love a complicated, time-consuming project recipe but that is so not the vibe this year. I want to spend less time in the kitchen and more time drinking wine with my friends and family, you feel? And that excludes recipes that requires anything I personally find annoying like frying, poaching, or…dredging.

I know, I know. Dredging isn’t even hard. But I don’t even know why, I just can’t. Even when I was in culinary school, I dreaded dredging. But that’s ok because I’ve found a way to make crispy, buttery breadcrumb-y cheese the easy way.

This recipe takes inspo from my boursin cheese stuffed mushrooms. All you need is five ingredients (not including salt and pepper) and about five minutes of prep time. If you have leftover boursin, just whip up a batch of this 3-ingredient boursin dip or slather it on roast beef crostini!

Homemade or store-bought boursin

I’ve made this recipe with both store-bought and homemade boursin cheese. Both work great! But, if you’re going to double the recipe, it’s definitely worth it to make a batch of homemade. My DIY version makes about double the amount as a regular wheel of cheese, so it’s much more affordable!

Feel free to use any toppings you like here. Swap the hot honey with regular, add some chopped nuts, or use rosemary/thyme in place of the chives. This recipe is flexible!

Easy Baked Boursin Cheese (No Dredging)

Yield: 6 servings
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
This is an easier take on the famous baked boursin cheese! All you need is five ingredients and five minutes of prep for a cheesy, crowd-pleasing appetizer. Drizzle the cheese with hot honey and add a sprinkle of chives for a pop of extra flavor. Seriously, everyone will be asking for this recipe!

Ingredients

  • 5.3 ounces homemade boursin cheese or store-bought (1 wheel/150 grams)
  • 1/4 cup Panko breadcrumbs (15 grams)
  • 1 Tablespoon unsalted butter, melted (15 grams)
  • Kosher salt and freshly-cracked black pepper, to taste
  • Hot honey, for drizzling
  • Fresh chopped chives, for garnish
  • Crusty bread or crackers, for serving

Equipment

  • Ramekin or small baking dish

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease a ramekin or small baking dish with neutral oil or cooking spray. Then, spread the boursin cheese into an even layer in the prepared ramekin/baking dish.
  • Next, combine the Panko breadcrumbs and melted butter in a small bowl. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Spread the breadcrumbs into an even layer over the boursin cheese.
  • Bake the cheese for 20-25 minutes, until the cheese is hot and the breadcrumbs are golden-brown. If you want the breadcrumbs to be toastier, broil the cheese on HIGH for 1-2 minutes.
  • Drizzle the baked boursin with hot honey and garnish with a sprinkle of fresh chives. Enjoy with crusty bread or crackers.

Notes

One batch of my homemade boursin cheese makes about 10 ounces/2 wheels. You can either halve the homemade boursin recipe, make a double batch of baked boursin, or save the rest for another use.
If you double the recipe, use a shallow baking dish. You want more surface area for all of the buttery breadcrumbs!
Feel free to swap the toppings with whatever you have on hand. Use regular honey, add a sprinkle of chopped nuts, or use rosemary/thyme instead of chives. This recipe is versatile.
